Valentine’s day

Chocolate Fondue at Bain-Marie Recipe

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces high-quality chocolate (70% cocoa recommended) or more! Featured in the picture above is a mix of different chocolate I had on hand.

  • Dippers: fruits (strawberries, bananas, apples, pineapple, cantaloup), marshmallows, pretzels, pound cake cubes, or any favorite treat

Equipment

  • Double boiler or bain-marie (a heatproof bowl set over a pot of simmering water)

  • Wooden spoon or heat-resistant spatula

  • Serving bowl for fondue

  • Skewers or fondue forks for dipping

Steps

  1. Prepare Your Bain-Marie: Fill a saucepan with about an inch of water. Bring it to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Place a heatproof bowl on top, ensuring it doesn’t touch the water.

  2. Melt the Chocolate: Chop the chocolate into small pieces to ensure even melting. Place the chocolate in the bowl over the simmering water. Stir occasionally until the chocolate is fully melted. Keep the heat low to prevent the chocolate from burning or seizing.

  3. Transfer and Serve: Carefully pour the melted chocolate fondue into a serving bowl. Keep it warm by leaving it over the simmering water or using a fondue pot.

  4. Prepare the Dippers: Arrange your selected dippers on a platter around the fondue bowl.

  5. Enjoy: Use skewers or forks to dip your chosen dippers into the warm chocolate fondue for a delightful treat.

Tips

  • Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor.

  • Keep the heat low to prevent the chocolate from burning or seizing.

  • As you can see, my recipe does not include any cream. Melting the chocolate over low heat is the best way to ensure a smooth and glossy result. Incorporating cream can sometimes lead to undesirable textures, such as a gritty or sandy appearance, or it may cause the butter to separate from the chocolate, resulting in an oily layer on top. To avoid these potential mishaps, simply follow this straightforward recipe!

  • Encourage children to help with washing fruits and arranging dippers, fostering independence in the kitchen and creating a shared experience.

This chocolate fondue recipe is a tasty dessert and a cherished family tradition that brings people together at the dinner table. By melting just chocolate instead of mixing it with cream, you make a smaller amount that lightly coats the fruits, rather than overwhelming them. This encourages your child to try new fruits, turning unknown flavors into exciting discoveries and creating a shared experience at mealtime.

Leftovers

If you have leftovers, you can use them for hot chocolate. Dip a plastic fork in your leftovers chocolate and lay them on a tray with parchemin paper. flash freeze them & when they are solid, transfert them in a freezer friendly container or bag. Once you are ready to enjoy a hot chocolate, take your chocolate spoon and leave them at room temp for 10-15 minutes. Then simply warm your milk and stir in your spoon. Enjoy this delicious, melted coco-lava.

Fruit spread

Use this as an opportunity to introduce new fruits. Use the cookie cutters down below to create different shapes, this is a great activity for the kids!

Personalize your spoons!

Sprinkle some sea salt, crushed candy cane or mini marshmallow.

Happy Valentine’s days to you from my loves!
